In 2014 this outfitter that we had been working with for several years was able to acquire buffalo permits bordering the west side of Kruger Park and we were ecstatic to say the least. SINCE THEN THEY HAVE BEEN 100 PERCENT SUCCESS ON MATURE BULLS! Hunt will include all licenses, permits, trophy fee, 1×1 PH, skinners, camp staff, accommodations, catering, laundry, day rate, taxes and airport pickup. Trophy fee is refundable in the unlikely event of not getting a buffalo.
Here is a premier free range cape buffalo hunt for old mature bulls with the possibility of seeing the “Big 5”. In our opinion this 50,000 acre portion of the Greater Kruger Conservancy area is as good or better than hunting in Zimbabwe, Mozambique or Tanzania without the travel problems or getting your trophies shipped back home. This is your classical cape buffalo hunt, where you and your PH and trackers nd fresh spoor of old mature bachelor bulls “Dugga Boys” (they try to target bulls 14 years of age or older) and proceed on foot to hopefully get the opportunity to take or pass the buff. Sometimes this takes course over several days, but most hunts are successful in 3 or 4 days.
7 day hunt for buffalo in the 36 to 38 inch class guided 1×1 is $19,250. Camp accommodations are very nice and personal. The main building has 4 private cabins near a well-frequented water hole where hunters can see or hear elephants, lion, hyena, leopard or a host of other wildlife. Once you have taken your buffalo remaining days can be spent at camp or visiting Kruger National Park. This PH also gets 2 special permits for buffalo over 40 inches and they expect to take trophy bulls in the 40 to 44 inch class. He pays dearly for these special tags and the hunt price will be $24,500 for 8 hunting days.
On the normal 7 day hunt many buffalo hunters spend their remaining days hunting the Umkomaas River Conservancy located only about an 8 hour ride from the buffalo area. The Umkomaas is 160,000 free range acres of relatively thick hilly country that harbors exceptional nyala, bushbuck and greater southern kudu, along with other indigenous species of plainsgame such as bushpig, grey duiker, giraffe, eland, reedbuck both common and mountain, blue and black wildebeest, warthog and waterbuck. Accommodations are the traditional tented camp with en suite chalets, electric blankets if necessary, with indoor and outdoor showers making this a great experience. Most hunters add on 3 days to make this hunt an awesome 10 day safari. The travel day and day rate is included on your 7 day buffalo hunt and when you surpass that the remaining 3 days are priced at only $400 per day plus trophy fees on additional animals. This area produces the highest quality and numbers of free range nyala and cape bushbuck hunting we have experienced anywhere.
Hunters are picked up at the Johannesburg Airport and driven 4 hours to the buffalo camp at no charge. Limited buffalo openings are available for 2017 and best dates would be from May to late September. Bob and Shoshana Wodzisz enjoyed this buffalo hunt with some friends. Hunt SAB.
