YUKON MOOSE 2017
$21,000 HORSEBACK HUNT CHARTER/LICENSES/ROYALTIES/TAX ALL INCLUSIVE
2016-8 BULLS FOR 8 HUNTERS
There had not been an outfitter in this area for about 15 years and it was closed to non-residents due to an old game violation. This young outfitter purchased the hunting rights and in 2014 ran dall sheep hunts. The outfitter and crew took two of his friends with moose tags into the area for more of a scouting trip. They took a 62 inch bull and spent the remainder of the time cutting trails into 4 other camps. The area has not had any upkeep since its closure about 15 years earlier.
2015 he took 3 HCU moose hunters and 3 bulls were taken, with the best going 66 inches. They added 2 more new moose camps in preparation for the 2016 season and it paid off. Last fall in 2016 they took 8 moose hunters and killed 8 bulls, including HCU’s bowhunter, Joe Venazindis. Best bulls went 63, 62 and a 61 incher that scored 221. HCU’s Steve Shook not only took a moose, but also a dall and a grizzly on his September hunt.
Horseback hunts are priced at $21,000 for 8 actual hunting days and INCLUDE round trip charter from Whitehorse, licenses, government royalties and taxes.
Moose hunts will be September to early October. Sheep or male grizzly can be added on a $10,000 trophy fee.
At press time there were 2 moose openings for September 24 to October 4, 2017. Hunt MS135.
