This top lion outfitter hunts several units near his home in western Colorado. His success continues even in poor weather conditions. If it gets tough, he has some great mules that go where a truck cannot and by covering country his dogs find lions on bare ground. Bobcats can be added for a $1,000 trophy fee plus tag, and they kill several every year.
Winter of 2024/2025 finished with 3 of the 4 hunters tagging toms.
Winter of 2023/2024 ended with 8 hunters killing 7 cats including 5 toms and 2 females, along with a few bobcats.
5 day hunts from late November to end of March are $10,000 guided 1×1. November and March can be dry ground months, and he normally allows a couple more days if necessary. Hunters typically stay at a cabin near the outfitters’ home or possibly a travel trailer depending on where the hunt takes place and meals are included. Most hunters fly into Grand Junction, where you are met by the outfitter. He is equipped to take a couple buddies at the same time and normally extends the hunt. COLORADO LION HUNT $7000
This is a very hard working cat guy that maintains around 20 plus eager lion hounds.
2024/2025 winter only produced marginal snow so he didn’t take any hunters.
2023/2024 winter ended with 4 of 5 hunters tagging toms. Top 2 were in the 150 pound class.
2023/2022 winter finished with 4 of his 5 hunters tagging cats including 3 toms.
This is a very personal family operation that offers 5 day hunts for $7,000 with accommodations in the outfitters ranch house. If two hunters come together, he will allow them to stay 10 days. License is about $350 and round-trip airport pickup in Grand Junction is $150. HCU has had several hunters take their spouses on this hunt and the outfitter’s wife will take them on some real nice day trips to surrounding towns for sightseeing and shopping. COLORADO LION HUNT $7500
This small personal houndsman hunts several units in the Montrose and Gunnison area. He starts hunting December 1 and finishes the end of March.
2024/2025 winter ended with 7 hunters taking 5 toms and one hunter treed 2 females.
2023/2024 winter finished with 5 cats for 7 hunters, including a 180 pound tom. Overall, 4 toms 1 female.
5 day hunts are priced at $7,500. Pickups and side by sides are mainly used for transportation, but if the snow is deep, they can rely on snowmachines. Accommodation is the outfitters home just outside of Hotchkiss. Hunters are picked up at Montrose airport. Hunt ML778.

Over the past 19 years this small personal outfitter has taken 103 lynx for 111 hunters, just incredible, no one has lynx success like this. He has a 3,500 square mile area located in prime lynx, cougar and bobcat habitat in southern British Columbia bordering a park and a wilderness area, both of which do not allow hunting.
His mountain lion hunts are also very successful, as well as being known to produce some extremely big old toms. In the last 10 years 101 out of 111 hunters took home a cougar.
2024/2025 he had 8 lynx hunters tag 8 lynx and all 5 lion hunters scored. 100 percent success again.
2023/2024 he had 8 lynx hunters take home 8 lynx, along with a couple bobcats. All 5 lion hunters killed.
He starts mid-November and runs through January. Lynx hunts are 7 hunting days at $9,500 or 5 days for $7,500 and $15,000 for cougar. After your initial lion kill, you can continue hunting at $1,500 per day for a bobcat or lynx with no kill fee.
